DR. TOM NABORS

Founder of Salivary Testing U.S. Chief of Oral Systemic Medicine at Direct Diagnostics

For thirty-seven years, Dr. Tom Nabors has served as a leader in advancing oral microbiology, immunology, and the emerging field of Oral Systemic Health. Following a career in Dentistry, he launched Oral DNA in 2008, the first diagnostic laboratory to focus on the indemnification and diagnostic relevance of oral pathogens. The company was acquired by Quest Diagnostics in 2009 where Tom remained the Chief Dental Officer until 2012. He has remained active in the industry working to advance the science as well as its implementation and impact on practice management. Tom received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Tennessee Health-Sciences and has served in senior roles across numerous professional organizations including the American Academy for Oral Systemic Health and as Adjunct Professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center: Bioscience Research Department.

JULIE COX, BS, RDH, EFDA

Senior Director Clinical Education and Customer Success

Julie Cox is a Registered Dental Hygienist. She earned her Bachelor’s degree of Science, as well as her EFDA certification at The Ohio State University. She has over 15 years of experience as a clinician in the central Ohio area. Additionally, Julie has worked as a dental consultant in the coaching/education space for over 12 years. She is most passionate, and extensively trained in oral systemic health, specifically utilizing targeted therapy to treat high risk oral pathogens. KATE VON LACKUM, DMD, PhD

Microbiologist, Periodontist

Dr. Kate von Lackum is a Board-Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, an American Dental Association Recognized Specialty. Although she is a Lexington, Kentucky native, Dr. von Lackum received her dental education and specialty residency training at the University of Florida (UF) College of Dentistry and the UF School of Advanced Dental Sciences. Additionally, Dr. von Lackum trained to become a Fellow in the International Congress of Oral Implantology (ICOI), a non-profit continuing education organization committed towards development, research and advanced training in the field of implant dentistry. Dr. von Lackum recently became a certified BaleDoneen Method® provider using evidence-based science and optimal disease treatment to help prevent heart attacks, ischemic strokes and type 2 diabetes. The BaleDoneen Method is designed to improve and save lives and is being integrated into practice by medical and dental providers on a global basis. She is an active member in the American Academy of Periodontology, International Congress of Oral Implantology, Academy of Osseointegration, American Dental Association (ADA), Kentucky Dental Association, Blue Grass Dental Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Dr. von Lackum is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, visiting lecturer at the Dental Hygiene program at Bluegrass Community & Technical College, and frequent lecturer with the Kentucky Dental Hygiene Association.

CRAIG BACKS, MD

Internal Medicine Specialist

Craig Backs, MD, is an experienced specialist in Internal Medicine, caring for adults through diagnostic skills and management of acute and chronic disease. These diseases include diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis, and other conditions that respond to better lifestyle choices, supplements and medications. Left to progress, they can dramatically shorten or ruin an individual’s life. He is best described as an “open minded allopath” now focused on root cause elimination, correction of nutrient deficiencies with targeted supplements and medication when the benefit outweighs the risk. Dr. Backs was educated at Valparaiso University and Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. His Internal Medicine residency was completed at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield, IL. It was there he practiced with a group of other internists and primary care doctors. He served as President of the Illinois State Medical Society among other leadership roles. After three years as Chief Medical Officer at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL, he opened The Center for Prevention Heart Attack and Stroke, which later became The CureCenter for Chronic Disease. Dr. Backs has made it his mission to cure Chronic Disease by digging out its root causes. His personal journey to cure Chronic Disease began in May of 2012. “My own personal health went through a dramatic makeover,” says Dr. Backs. “I now know better and provide a more credible example for my patients. I understand the challenges they face as they pursue a healthier lifestyle.
