Nitrate-responsive oral microbiome modulates nitric oxide homeostasis and blood pressure in humans

Imbalances in the oral microbial community and poor dental health have been associated with reduced cardiovascular and metabolic health. We showed that ageing, per se, in the absence of chronic disease, does not impair an individual's ability to reduce dietary NO3 - and increase plasma [NO2 - ] in response to NO3 - supplementation.
